RETREATS

Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat in Varkala Kerala India

Modern-day life is demanding and stress and anxiety have become prevalent in our society as a result. Our mission at Devvrat Yoga Sangha is to equip people with the tools and knowledge to ascertain balance and peace of mind and consequently prevent psychosomatic illnesses that are becoming increasingly common.

We are convinced that the secrets to a happier and healthier state of being can be found in the practice of Yoga and its sister discipline – Ayurveda. The uninterrupted practice of Yoga across millennia as well as a substantial amount of recent research is a testimony to the incredible effects these two ancient Indian sciences have on the well-being of an individual.

Meditation

Meditation is a significant part of Yoga practice, and therefore, a crucial aspect of our retreats. There are a number of meditation techniques with roots in different traditions, the benefits of meditation have been documented both in ancient spiritual texts as well as modern science.

We know that it’s not one size fits all, hence during our meditation sessions, we experiment with a variety of techniques, exploring an array of meditative states so that you can understand what method works for you to incorporate in your own daily practice.

Ayurvedic Sarvanga Abhyanga – Full body massage

Dating as far back as 3000 BC, Ayurvedic massage has been used in a relatively unchanged form to release energy blockage from the body. This unique technique allows your life force (prana) to flow freely through the body, reestablishing harmony and balance. Ayurveda recognises 7 main chakras, points where a number of energy channels (nadis) meet. When in balance, the chakras are responsible for our physical and psychological well being, whilst excess or deficiency at this subtle level can lead to ill health. This ancient Ayurvedic treatment involves a whole body massage with a concoction of warm aromatic oils with a variety of properties, there are different types of infusions and they can be tailored to your needs and constitution.

Ayurvedic Diet

According to the ancient teachings of Ayurveda, food has the capacity to stimulate, repair and rejuvenate the body and a state of balance and bliss is heavily influenced by how we nourish ourselves. What makes Ayurveda unique is that prevention and treatment of sickness through alimentation takes into account the general differences in each of our natural constitutions- or mind and body types. So foods that promote certain qualities and curb others in one person may be different to those of a person with a different constitution. Hence, first it is vital to identify your constitution (dosha) to understand the types of food that serve you and those that don’t. During our retreat, we offer a consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor to develop that awareness.
