Practical classes are taught in small groups with a maximum of one teacher for every fifteen students, so you always receive personal guidance. Theory is taught in interactive and informal lectures led by subject experts. For more details, you can review our full training curriculum.

For the 200 hour training, experience helps but is not required. Many of our most successful students started with no background at all and progressed quickly thanks to their motivation and open mindset.
We recommend the 200 hour training if you are new to yoga. The 300 hour program is meant for certified teachers or experienced practitioners, but if you feel strongly about joining you can contact us to discuss your situation.

The 200 hour Hatha & Ashtanga yoga teacher training is designed as a first step into teaching and independent practice. The 300 hour training builds on this foundation and is meant for those already teaching or wishing to refine and perfect their practice in Hatha and Ashtanga. No prior knowledge is required. Everything will be explained step by step in clear and simple language.
You are welcome to join even if you do not plan to teach. Many students attend mainly to deepen their personal practice, though the 300 hour program includes more teaching practice and higher teaching expectations.
Yes, you will receive a carefully designed manual on the first day along with a welcome goodie bag to support your learning.
No, we provide a printed manual and a copy of Light on Yoga by B. K. S. Iyengar, as well as a notebook and pens to write. Any extra reading is optional and will be recommended during the training.
You will study with people from many different backgrounds, cultures, ages, and levels of yoga. Every group is unique, and the diversity creates a rich and inspiring learning environment, and we truly believe we can learn most from each other in this kind of setting. However, we notice that each group is different, so see it as a surprise from the universe 😉
On average there are between five and fifteen students. At full capacity of thirty, we divide into two smaller groups to maintain quality and personal attention.
Yes, the campus has reliable high speed WiFi and you can use your laptop during breaks. However, we do recommend reducing screen time so you can fully immerse yourself in the training.
Yes, there are breaks each day, and every Sunday is a full day off. You can relax on the beach, swim, shop, or explore Varkala, but we recommend keeping your main focus on the training.

Yes, Kerala is one of the safest and most educated states in India, and Varkala is a popular destination for solo female travelers. As always, take normal travel precautions, but you can feel comfortable and welcome here.

One of the core values at Devvrat Yoga Sangha is “freedom”. In that spirit, we encourage everyone to show up in our classes and our campus as they are. That includes dress style. You are free to wear what feels comfortable and respectful. Unlike traditional ashrams, we do not require students to cover up, though outside the campus local culture may expect more modest clothing.

No, but several laundry services are located just a few steps from the campus.

The closest airport is Trivandrum, about one hour away by car. Cochin Airport is another option, about four to five hours from Varkala. 

Varkala has a warm tropical climate year round, with ocean temperatures perfect for swimming. Expect plenty of sunshine, fresh fruits and vegetables, and refreshing rain showers depending on the season.
October to April are the most popular months with sunny skies and pleasant temperatures around twenty five to thirty degrees Celsius. July to September brings cooler tropical rains, and May to July is hotter and humid but also mango season.
Yes, you may arrange your own accommodation and join us for classes. Attendance is required for the full curriculum, and transport to and from the school will be your responsibility. Please contact us or mention this during your interview to discuss.

Yes, a valid visa is required. Most students apply for a tourist e visa that is valid for three months and usually processed within a few business days. Please consult the official e-visa website for more information:

This depends on your country of residence and your personal health. Please check the official recommendations on your government health website before traveling.
We serve fresh, vegetarian , Sattvic all-you-can-eat meals (mainly vegan) that are light and nourishing. If you are vegan, you will have plenty of options with each meal.Food is prepared every day freshly with care by our local Keralan cooking staff and is fully adapted to the rhythm of the training.
Yes, you may bring personal snacks, drinks, or supplements. Please note that meat, alcohol, smoking, and any form of drugs are strictly forbidden on campus.
Yes, the Varkala Cliffs are just a few minutes walking away and offer many amazing cafes and restaurants with diverse food options.

Application Process, bookings & payments

Click “Apply Now” and complete the application with your preferred course and dates and schedule a short call on Whatsapp or Google Meet. We will contact you within one to two days to confirm the fit and answer questions. After acceptance you will receive a confirmation email with the next steps, including an orientation manual with everything you need to know about the course, and details about the deposit to reserve your spot.

We have limited spots and want to ensure each student gets the best experience. The interview is simply a short call to get to know you and confirm the training is a good fit. 

Your place is confirmed with a deposit of $300, which you can pay online. The remaining balance is due upon arrival.

The deposit of $300 is non refundable, but you can transfer it to any future training or retreat at Devvrat Yoga Sangha.

We understand that plans can change, and we’re here to help. If you notify us at least thirty days before the course starts, you can freely move your deposit to another date or to an online training.
